An end to my life with Cosmopolitan Magazine...but far from sad!

Well,

I had a lot of fun tracking the life and times of the infamous Cosmo Mag--through all the lies, dishonesty, hurt, and misconceptions, It was still an honor to dig and find various stories of (very little) women's empowerment, playboy bacholers, and Cosmo deceiving more than one celebrity. Tis was a very entertaining journey, and as much as I despise (and love!) Cosmopolitan Magazine, I wouldn't mind being a contributor to the Mag. I know...I know...I'm a walking ironic contradiction, but c'mon, let's face it. That's where the big bucks are, and will probably remain...a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do. Having said that, I guess this is my "So Long" to my favorite trashy Mag--may you continue to steal and "whore out" the lives of women all around the globe--FAREWELL Cosmopolitan Magazine...muah!

Authors Susanna Paasonen, Kaarina Nikunen, Laura Saarenmaa, of the book "Pornification: Sex and Sexuality in Media Culture" have a very different outtake of the impact that Cosmopolitan Magazine has on women. In this book, it goes on to say that in the 1960's Cosmopolitan Mag stressed the role of female sexual knowledge in keeping a man--the goal was for a single girl to marry. The success of Cosmopolitan lies in its ability to address a global audience. Cosmo also follows the general trend of womens magazines to offer difference without diversity. Hence the reason why I like to stress--from time to time--that Cosmo is no different from any other women's magazine. Today, Cosmopolitan Magazine's perception is very different from that of the way it was in the 1960's. Today, it's "200,1 way to please your man" rather that "How to be the best homemaker". Times have changed, for women, since the 1960's, and so have Cosmopolitan's objective in the live of women.

CoZmo Upgrade!

VS.

I discovered an old publication from the wee old year of 1996 stating that Cosmopolitan was upgrading with the times and offering their magazine on the web. I found this very interesting in that it was considered a major deal, at that time. And now here we are 13 years later and most--if not all--magazines offer a web service as oppose to the print version. And most people--if not all--don't purchase print magazines and prefer to read them online. If Cosmopolitan considered that an upgrade in 1996, then what's next for the future of the print industry...

CoZmo Console...

With today's economy withering away into small pieces of disastrous nothings, of course magazine sales are going to drop. What I didn't know was the actual numbers of how far down the scale they were actualy dropping. Although my beloved Cosmopolitan Magazine is not doing too good in todays market, I have faith that they will stand strong and persevere through these rough times. If not...there's always Better Home & Garden, right?

CoZmo in Trouble

Well, this makes for a very interesting story--Time Magazine (with the article dating back to Feb. 02 1953) featured a story titled, "Cosmopolitan In Trouble"

Apparently the Hearst's Corporation sales have been dropping drastically since the end of World War II--with some adjustments and modifications to the company, staff, and magazine, some very strategic decisions were made:

A Very Strict Cozmo...

So, I came across an article, in Cosmo of course, that had pictures of the "50 Hottest Bachelors of 2008." So here's the problem: Cosmo only wants to showcase men who are "Good Natured, Down Home, All American Boys" in their magazine, but what they got are a few men who chose the other route and posed for Playgirl...

And of course, they were reprimanded for the bad decisions they made...

And Today's Headline Is...

After 120 years of research, Comspolitan Magazine has officially cataloged every possible way a woman can please her man...yaaay! Well, I don't know about you but that's a breakthrough in the history of women and science! (totally sarcastic :))
